When buying any commodity, it goes without saying that cost is the most basic factor to consider, and we all hope to get a reasonable price. Then, time and time again, we see customers purchasing products that are not completely suitable for their application. of the card board.

Why? Because their purchasing decision depends entirely on the card board price, ignoring their own application needs.

However, without considering the needs of the application process, companies risk purchasing pallets that are not up to the job they do. Ultimately, costing the company more money in the long/short term. Here are our top eight questions to consider before purchasing plastic pallets to ensure you’re getting the right product for your application at the right price:

1. First consider what is the purpose of the card board you need?

What application did you purchase this card board for? Answering this question will tell you all you need to know about card board types.

Start by choosing the right pallet for your application, which will tell you the size, strength and weight you can put on the pallet. It can also help you determine durability and any key specs you need, such as if it requires hygienic pallets, then generally hygienic flat pallets will cost more than mesh pallets. All of these factors will determine the cost.

By analyzing the application, you can avoid the cost waste caused by purchasing inappropriate ones, insufficient load capacity, inconvenient use and handling, and maintenance and replacement of card boards.

2. In what type of supply chain do you use cardboard?

Are you using pallets in a closed-loop supply chain, is it one-way transport, or are you exporting goods?

Figuring out this question will help determine the lifespan of the card board you need. This is also a factor that affects your purchase cost. Lightweight pallets are required for many shipments of export pallets, while circular supply chains prefer heavy pallets for reuse.

3. Determine the weight of the product you need to put on the pallet

How much do you want to put on the card board? Are these products evenly distributed on the pallet, or are the weights unevenly placed.

The load and how the items are placed is another important factor to consider. It will determine the load capacity and durability of the pallet that needs to be selected.

4. In what way are the items to be placed on the card board?

Given the shape and packaging of the goods, will the goods hang on the pallet? Will the edge of the pallet interfere with the cargo?

Some cards are designed with raised edges around the edges, but most cards do not. For example, if you are placing board goods, the edge line may be scratched or squeezed into the goods, then you should choose a pallet that does not change along the line. On the other hand, some car manufacturers use pallets to place stackable plastic boxes, so the edge lines of these pallets can effectively place the plastic boxes sliding on the pallet surface.

Also, consider the interaction of the goods on the upper layer? Opt for smooth, closed flat cardboards, or gridded-panel cardboards for added breathability.

5. What material handling equipment do you have on site now?

Or any plans for the future? Likewise, is their automation in place, or how is it used in subsequent supply chain steps?

The type of material handling equipment used determines whether you need a four-side-entry forklift, or a two-side-entry forklift pallet. Different pallet types have different fork positions, some are suitable for manual forklifts and electric forklifts, and some are only suitable for electric forklifts.

6. Where will the pallets be stored? Should it be used on a shelf or flat?

Are you planning to store the pallets in racks, and if so, what type of racks?

Will the cardboard be stored outside and will it get wet? Is the storage environment cold or hot?

First, if on a shelf, what is the distance between the shelf beam and the support? How does the type of rack affect the loading capacity of the pallet?

Do I need to stack the pallets after placing the goods? These will affect the selection of the type of pallet, considering the static load, dynamic load, and load performance of the pallet.

Where are the cardboards placed? If it is placed outdoors, it needs to withstand heat and rain, and the type of cardboard and the raw material of the cardboard must be considered.

7. Quantity and delivery time

How many card boards do you need? Is this a one-time purchase, or do I need to make several purchases over a period of time?

Whether it is a LOGO or logo on the card board, whether it is a regular color or a custom color, whether you need an RFID tag, etc., and how fast you need to deliver.

All of these factors will affect the delivery time of pallets, and those pallets with special needs usually have longer lead times if they are not regular products that are often produced. Of course, Furui Plastics has a long-term stock supply of conventional pallets, which will be able to provide greater flexibility.

8. Know your app

For example, if the pallets are to be used for exporting goods, lightweight nesting pallets are the best alternative to wooden pallets, as these pallets are also low cost. Also, plastic pallets do not require ISPM15 treatment fumigation to meet export regulations.

In addition, the cost of wood pallets and plastic pallets currently used for export is not much different. In addition, plastic pallets can be recycled when they are discarded. Therefore, it is better to choose plastic pallets when shipping goods.

Before purchasing recyclable plastic shipping packaging, customers should fully understand the application, consider its limitations, choose wisely and ask a professional. With so many different types of plastic pallets available, logistics professionals can ensure the right solution is selected by considering the application first and then the cost.
